Carnival 2020 moved a little more than R$ 8 billion in tourism-related activities this year, according to the first official data from the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
For this year 2020, if confirmed, revenue represents a real increase of 1% in relation to that obtained in the same period last year and, in addition, it is the highest volume since 2015.
The information is according to the CNC, which completed “the gradual recovery of economic activity, combined with low inflation” tend to reflect in the moderate recovery of tourist services.
In addition, the strengthening of the dollar against the real will probably favor a greater internal flow of tourists and other investors at this best time of the year for the Brazilian economy.

The Ministry of Tourism calculates that at least 36 million Brazilians will spend the holiday in the six main carnival destinations in the country and in the Federal District.
In addition, the CNC points out that food away from home is one of the sectors that saw the most growth this year, such as bars and restaurants (generating around R$ 4.8 billion).
Profit at Carnival 2020
Road passenger transport companies also generated great movement, in the road vehicle leasing sector (total of R$ 1.3 billion) but also accommodation services in hotels and inns (R$ 861.3 million).
Together, these segments accounted for 88% of Carnival 2020 revenues. However, in Rio, the financial movement of revenues was R$ 2.68 billion, followed by São Paulo with R$ 1.94 billion.
Approximately 25,000 temporary workers were hired this Carnival 2020, between January and February of this year 2020 – the largest contingent since 2014.
