“Traffic will be completely blocked on 21 streets and side roads in the city that connect with Maricá and São Gonçalo. At this first moment, the seven possible points of access to Niterói will be controlled for the entry of vehicles, and taxis from other cities will be instructed to return from that point, as they will no longer be able to enter the city from Saturday”, said Renato Barandier , municipal secretary of Urbanism and Mobility.

Measure for social isolation

Rodrigo Neves, mayor of Niterói, reaffirmed that the measure is essential to maintain social isolation.

“It will be a critical two weeks for the spread of the coronavirus. We need to reduce the entry of people into the city since Niterói is the second city in Brazil with the highest daily circulation, with approximately 250,000 people who do not live here”, emphasizes Mayor Rodrigo Neves. “With this first stage of the plan, we are going to verify the expansion curve of the coronavirus in Niterói and neighboring cities to eventually adopt the other measures proposed in the Plan”.
