Carnival 2020 generated just over R$ 8 billion in tourism-related activities this year, according to the first official figures from the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
For this year 2020, revenue, if confirmed, represents a real increase of 1% in relation to that obtained in the same period last year and, in addition, it is the highest volume since 2015.
The information is according to the CNC, which completed “the gradual recovery of economic activity, combined with low inflation” tend to reflect in the moderate recovery of tourist services.
Furthermore, the strengthening of the dollar against the real should probably favor a greater internal flow of tourists and other investors at this best time of year for the Brazilian economy.

The Ministry of Tourism estimates that at least 36 million Brazilians will spend the holiday in the country's six main carnival destinations and in the Federal District.
Furthermore, the CNC highlights that food away from home is one of the sectors that saw the biggest increase this year, such as bars and restaurants (generating around R$ 4.8 billion).
Profit at Carnival 2020
Road passenger transport companies also generated great movement, in the road vehicle rental sector (total of R$ 1.3 billion) but also accommodation services in hotels and guesthouses (R$ 861.3 million).
Together, these segments accounted for 88% of Carnival 2020 revenue. However, in Rio, financial turnover was R$ 2.68 billion, followed by São Paulo with R$ 1.94 billion.
Approximately 25 thousand temporary workers were hired during Carnival 2020, between January and February of this year 2020 – the largest contingent since 2014.
