According to an official publication, the FAB will distribute 60 respirators among the states to help treat Covid-19. In total, 1.5 tons are being transported.
How was this announcement? This Friday (10th) alone, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) transports around 1.5 tons of breathing equipment on the C-105 aircraft. The first location to be distributed will be in the Capital of Ceará, expected to arrive at 20:50.
In all there are 60 pieces of equipment, the distribution will be: 30 for Fortaleza (CE); 20 in Manaus (AM) and 10 in Macapá (AP).
The Ministry of Health confirmed that there is an urgent need to increase the number of intensive care beds in the three capitals to care for people infected with the new coronavirus. The respirator is essential equipment to treat people with the disease and who have the most serious symptom, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Disease growth in Ceará
The Ministry stated that Ceará is one of four states that are possibly entering a phase of uncontrolled acceleration of the pandemic. The state of Amazonas is also on the list. The other states are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and the Federal District.
Yesterday (9), the folder released a bulletin that listed Ceará as the state in the Northeast Region with the most registered cases. In all, there are 1,291 confirmed infections and 43 deaths. The second state in the region with the highest number of contaminations is Bahia, with 497 cases. In the North Region, Amazonas also stands out in number of infections. There are 899 confirmed cases and 40 deaths.
The equipment that goes to Manaus will be installed in beds at Hospital Delphina Abdel Aziz, in the north of the city. In the capital of Amapá, respirators will go to Maternidade Dra. Euclélia Américo, also in the north zone.
Importation of respirators
Brazil has encountered difficulties in being able to import respirators. According to information from the Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, this week, a Chinese company that would be responsible for delivering 15,000 units of mechanical respirators has not given guarantees that it will actually deliver.
In early April, the government of Bahia accused the United States of holding a shipment of respirators in Miami that had been purchased by the state from a Chinese company. The sale was canceled by the company.
