More than two years after the US embargo on fresh Brazilian beef, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) announced last week the release of slaughterhouses.
With the resumption, the Mato Grosso do Sul market envisions the possibility of resuming negotiations and expanding the business with the country.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) informed Mapa of the opening of the market for fresh beef from Brazil to the United States.
Positive Recovery
According to information from the Ministry, the portfolio holder, Tereza Cristina Dias, celebrated the resumption.
“Today, we are very pleased to receive news that has been expected for a long time: the reopening of the fresh beef market from Brazil to the United States.
News that we have been waiting for some time and that today I was happy to receive. It is great news, because this brings recognition of the quality of Brazilian meat by a market as important as the American one”, said Minister Tereza Cristina.
From an economic point of view, the reopening of the North American market is excellent for all of Brazil, said the deputy secretary of the Secretariat, (Semagro), Ricardo Senna.
“Meat is one of the main internationally competitive productive chains, we are in an important phase of conquering the opening of new markets
Therefore, the US market alone represents around 65% of what Brazil exported in 2019.
We export US$ 7.5 billion of fresh meat and they alone buy US$ 5 billion. The potential we have to serve the North American market is huge. So this news of the reopening of this market is certainly positive”, he said.
According to the president of the Association of Slaughterhouses, Slaughterhouses and Meat Distributors (Assocarnes-MS), Sérgio Capuci.
Therefore, a major market opening is always received with optimism.
“Whenever we open a market, it's positive. Mato Grosso do Sul has a great capacity to enable other plants for the United States”.
