Therefore, the flowers bring a history in the economic and socio-culture of artisans from Minas Gerais. While the region that most stands out in the production of evergreens in the north of Minas Gerais is Serra do Espinhaco.

Evergreens receives the award

As well as the practice used, it is awarded the title by the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, as World Agricultural Heritage. This is the first Brazilian title. In the world so far there are 57 heritage sites, a highlight for us in Brazil.

Those responsible for telling the story of the flowers collected for handicrafts and the creators of the dossier were the universities:

  • UFMG – Federal University of Minas Gerais;
  • UFVJM – Federal University of the Jequitinhonha Valleys;
  • UFJF – Federal University of Juiz de Fora;
  • Unifesp – Federal University of São Paulo.

Over the centuries, practices have been carried out in areas where the soil and relief have the characteristics for flower management, as well as human intervention in a sustainable way.

In short, the practices of evergreens with recognition bring several benefits to the region, with increased employment, a vision of investment, public policies and income for the population.
