“Traffic will be completely blocked on 21 streets and side roads in the city that connect with Maricá and São Gonçalo. At this first moment, vehicle entry control will be carried out at the seven possible points of access to Niterói, and taxis from other cities will be instructed to return from that point, as they will no longer be able to enter the city from Saturday onwards”, said Renato Barandier , municipal secretary of Urbanism and Mobility.

Measure for social isolation

Rodrigo Neves, mayor of Niterói, reaffirmed that the measure is essential to maintain social isolation.

“It will be two critical weeks for the spread of the coronavirus. We need to reduce the number of people entering the city since Niterói is the second city in Brazil with the highest daily circulation, with approximately 250 thousand people who do not live here”, highlights Mayor Rodrigo Neves. “With this first stage of the plan, we will check the coronavirus expansion curve in Niterói and neighboring cities to eventually adopt the other measures proposed in the Plan”.
