most expensive ticket

Thus, an adjustment of 7.45% in relation to the previous year. Although the City Hall claims that if the projects sent to the City Council are not approved. Therefore, Porto Alegre will continue to have the most expensive bus ticket among Brazilian capitals.

Since 2017, the municipal government claims to have presented alternatives to make the public transport system fairer and prevent the ticket price, already high, from being even higher.

However, the aforementioned initiatives include sending to the City Council, in January, five other bills for consideration by councilors, with the aim of reducing the tariff to R$ 3.70 this year and, in 2021, set it at R$ 2 .00 for general users; R$ 1.00 for students; and free pass to all formal workers.

Therefore, the proposals, according to the Executive, are “plausible, urgent and would directly benefit the vulnerable part of the population, which yearns for cheaper transport”.

“We, mayor and councilors, have the opportunity to make Porto Alegre the first capital to effectively lower the fare or continue with the most expensive ticket between the capitals. This is what is at stake”, warns Mayor Nelson Marchezan Júnior. “The proposals were designed for those who need it most, residents of remote areas who use public transport”, he adds.

The projects are part of the Citizen Transport package. The request from Seopa (Union of Bus Companies of Porto Alegre) was for an increase of R$ 0.50, which would raise the value to R$ 5.20.
