Production of 70% alcohol and partnership for donation is announced by Unica

According to the entity, São Paulo asked for 250 thousand liters of the product, used for gel formulation. The announcement was made after Anvisa released processing, until now prohibited in the ethanol and sugar industries.

Unica announces production and donation of 70% alcohol. Evandro Gussi, president of the entity, confirmed this Friday (20) that associated plants will start producing and donating the product to different states. The central objective is to expand the offer for hygiene in the public health system.

After authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

This same initiative is being adopted by other ethanol and sugar plants not linked to the entity, as in the case of Goiás.

In addition to São Paulo, which has already requested 250,000 liters of the product. Rio Grande do Sul asked for 90 thousand liters. And Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro must also submit applications. The deadline for the start of distribution, however, has not yet been confirmed.

“We are still receiving demands from state health departments. São Paulo should demand something like 250,000 liters. We already have an order for 90,000 liters from the Health Department of Rio Grande do Sul. Espírito Santo is closing its account, Rio de Janeiro too, and we, on the other hand, are organizing which units of Unica's associates this alcohol will come from”, he says.

Unica has yet to define which plants will produce the 70% alcohol. So far banned by Anvisa to the sector's plants, the process, in general terms, consists of reducing the concentration of ethanol. With that, part of the product is in liquid state, and another, in gel.

Once produced, the 70% alcohol will be sent to distribution centers in the states, where the product will be bottled and turned into a gel. The volume, according to Gussi, is small in relation to what the plants generate from fuel.

“It can be used in the formulation of gel alcohol and will be used in several places, in universities, military and civil institutes, and will also be used in this 70% formulation for cleaning surfaces, which is super important now in public health units”, explains.
