The total suspension of classes in private and public schools should take place on Monday (the 23rd).
The government of São Paulo and together with the City Hall of the capital of São Paulo made a statement this Friday (13). A measure of gradual suspension of classes will be implemented in state and municipal schools from Monday (16).
“We will not be taking a break from classes anyway. You have to have a plan with the families. It's no use stopping classes and the children staying with their grandfather and grandmother, who are the people we have to worry about the most”, said Rossieli Soares, State Secretary of Education.
“As of next Monday, any student who can, does not attend school, does not attend, as long as the solution is not to leave students with their grandparents”, said Bruno Caetano, municipal secretary of Education.
According to the secretary and governor João Doria, next week schools will be open for prevention guidelines. For both, families need time to organize.
“We are giving more than 10 days for families to organize”, points out Rossieli.
“We are programming distance activities with data sponsorship: students will enter at a certain time so that students can access the application for free even if it does not have its own internet”, he explains.
Doria and Caetano recommended and asked that the families update their address and telephone data, so that the instructions reach more people with greater ease and accuracy. The state education network includes 5,100 schools and serves 3.5 million students.
In the state, around 2.3 million students are currently enrolled in private schools and more than 600,000 teachers.
The city of São Paulo has 4,500 private schools and the state of São Paulo has 10,000 schools.
Officially, the state has 56 confirmed cases of coronavirus to date (Friday the 13th).
