The pandemic is creating new millionaires. You know those stories that seem just like fiction about people who go to the USA? Well, that's the kind of narrative we're going to talk about today. Yes, it is possible to overcome crises and have good income in difficult times.
Of course, we are not talking here about profiting from the death of others, that's not it, our portal Digital Insurance seeks to bring an optimistic perspective in the face of unpleasant scenarios that may arise, and not to present advantages in the misfortune of others.
We report daily here on the current situation of the coronavirus in Brazil and in the world, just follow our daily headlines, just like you who are reading this bulletin, we are worried about what will happen to everyone after this period.
Having clarified these points, shall we now talk about Erick Yuan?
Brief history of its trajectory marked by challenges.
According Folha's editorial, in 1987, Eric Yuan was a student of applied mathematics at the Chinese University of Shandong and was looking for an easier way to interact with the girl he was in love with.
However, the concept became a product only 24 years later, in mid-2011, but the voice program, video and —now we know—online meetings and parties earned the businessman a marriage, three children and his face stamped for the first time on the list of billionaires from Forbes magazine.
After all, who is this guy?
For those who don't know, businessman Eric Yuan is the founder of the videoconferencing company Zoom, which became popular during the coronavirus pandemic by allowing meetings of up to 500 people amid social distancing rules.
It is known that before the coronavirus, Zoom had about 10 million participations in meetings a day, today there are 300 million, even with the threats of virtual attacks that endangered the privacy of users.
On Yuan's fortune and success even in the pandemic
Yuan, who is now 49 years old, half of them living in the United States, saw his net worth reach US$ 7.8 billion (almost R$ 45 billion) in 2020 –US$ 4 billion (R$ 22 billion) in the first three months of the year alone.
If we look at the company's growth line, we will see that in just two months, Zoom's shares rose 50% – while stock markets melted amid the crisis.
Another astronomical growth detail: the group that was worth US$ 29 billion (R$ 159 billion) before the pandemic, is now quoted at US$ 44 billion (R$ 241 billion).
Speaking to Forbes, he said:
“I feel like it was overnight, in every country everyone realized they needed a tool like Zoom to connect.” From that perspective, we are very proud. We saw that with what we are doing here we can contribute a little to the world.”
