Startup develops biodegradable orthopedic immobilizer made with 3D printer

Startup develops orthopedic immobilizer, an alternative – possibly disruptive – to plaster. It is made with 3D printing. And as if it couldn't get any more interesting, the product is also biodegradable and tailor-made for the patient. And a helpful note, it only takes two hours to set, and unlike traditional plaster, it's airy, cleanable, and waterproof.

And he also says: “We value the importance of the professional, who will evaluate the patient's case, who will decide what is the ideal mobilization and also who will take measurements and apply them to the patient”.

The business works on a franchise system: the healthcare professional buys the 3D printer from a manufacturer that has a partnership with the startup. Then pay the membership fee to have access to the digital files and print the immobilizers.

The startup sells the filament, which is the material used to print and which costs from R$ 250. The product appears to be made of plastic, but it is biodegradable, made from sugar cane bagasse, beet and corn and was developed by the company itself. entrepreneurs.

Hebert explains how the material works: “It is thermoformable, so just heat it up. It can be in hot water or hot air, from 60ºC onwards it will become quite malleable, just like a fabric, just like a sheet of paper”.

The final value of this revolutionary product (for the consumer) varies according to the size and part of the body that will be immobilized, but the cost is affordable: from R$ 45. “If it's customized, it's expensive. And we manage to be just the opposite of that: to be personalized and accessible, to be democratic”, celebrates Felipe.
