The covid-19 has already impacted millions of families around the world, and of course, it would not be different in Brazil, which is why the Federal Government felt obliged to take more concrete actions to help the people who were impacted.
The statement confirming the action was given by Damares in a press conference at the press conference held at the Planalto Palace. She said:
“All villages, including isolated communities, will be reached with assistance at this time”
Federal Government – baskets for needy communities
This week, the federal government said it will start distributing 323,400 baskets to serve vulnerable populations —indigenous peoples, quilombolas and settlers—during the new coronavirus pandemic.
There is no forecast, according to the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights, of making new purchases until the end of this year.
In the past this action had already been repeated.
It is not something exclusive to this government, in 2013 (the year of Fora-Dilma) the action had already been practiced, it was the first year with data made available by Conab (National Supply Company), the government provided vulnerable families with 1.6 million baskets—the highest record in the series.
Subsequently, we had 1.16 million in 2015. Since then, distribution has never surpassed the mark of 1 million baskets. In 2017, there was the lowest offer of baskets: 273 thousand.
What will be distributed in the baskets?
According to the Government, there will be eight items in all, weighing up to 22 kg. The baskets have beans, soybean oil, pasta, cornmeal or corn flakes, cassava or wheat flour, rice, sugar and powdered milk.
But it is worth remembering that the cost is approximately R$ 90 and they only reach the communities in May.
Damares Alves (Minister of the Women, Family and Human Rights sector) was present at the launch of the Brasil Acolhedor project, on the 13th, which will also help homeless people, the disabled and the elderly who live in nursing homes in a second stage of the action .
