However, according to the city hall, the deadline for fulfilling this contract ended on January 31st and, as of this Tuesday, seven air-conditioned buses were missing.

The exemption would represent around R$ 1.5 million annually, according to the city council.

The Foz do Iguaçu Transport and Traffic Institute reported that the measure occurred so that improvements could be offered without reflecting on the bus fare.

Mayor's decision

According to Consórcio Sorriso, at first, no one will comment on the mayor's decision.

The suspension According to the city hall, of the 25 air-conditioned buses that should make up the city's bus fleet, only 18 are working.

Among them, 15 started operating in 2019 and the other three started operating in February 2020.

“Given that the consortium did not fully comply, it partially complied, our decision is that from January onwards the ISS exemption for companies’ public transport will be suspended”, said the mayor.

According to Brasileiro, the exemption was only valid for the months of October, November and December, while the consortium fulfilled the contract.

Municipal Consortium

Buses from a company that makes up the Foz municipal public transport consortium will be stopped during the workers' strike Raphaela Potter/Foz Buses removed.

Foz do Iguaçu City Hall reported that it is working on the hypothesis that, without the tax exemption, companies can remove the buses.

If this happens, according to the mayor, the municipal administration will go to court to ensure that the buses continue to operate.

“If they remove it, the municipality will take action.

Because it was not the population or the municipality that made a mistake.

The consortium was the one who didn't fulfill the contract, so if they take away the municipality, they have the means and will act, and won't let them act as they want”, he highlighted.
