Director Sandoval Feitosa, rapporteur for the case, emphasized that the determination does not exempt consumers from complying with the payment. But it is a way for people who are not able to pay at the moment, to continue to receive the electricity supply.

“I urge all Brazilians who can pay their invoices on time to do so. This will allow us to embrace people who cannot pay their energy bills,” said Sandoval.

In the vote, the director added that having electricity is essential for Brazilians to stay in their homes. The process was voted on in an extraordinary meeting.

resolution measures

Other measures of the resolution made by Aneel are also: suspension of the monthly delivery of the printed invoice; personal delivery of invoices; the suspension of face-to-face attendance to the public; as well as the suspension of the delisting of families from the social tariff. And the elaboration of specific contingency plans to serve hospitals and places used for the treatment of the population.

According to the Agency, in the total billing of energy distributors, 47.5% are from residential consumers and currently the level of default is 5%.

“If the measures to prohibit the suspension of supply result in an increase in defaults, the Regulatory Body will certainly have to adopt alternative measures to guarantee the sustainability of the electricity sector”, communicated Aneel.
