Quarantine in São Paulo will last until April 7th

Governor João Doria decrees quarantine until April 7 in São Paulo. The state already records 15 dead and 396 infected by the coronavirus.

This Saturday (21) the governor of São Paulo, João Doria announced that from next Thursday (24), the quarantine will last until April 7.

Measure will be for the 645 municipalities of the state of São Paulo. And it forces the closure of trade, maintaining only essential services such as in the areas of Health and Safety. The publication will be made in the Official Gazette of the state.

In the state of São Paulo, so far, it has already recorded 15 deaths of people infected by the coronavirus in the capital of São Paulo. Altogether there are 396 confirmed cases and 34 patients admitted to ICUs. There are 9 thousand suspected cases.

Hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and dental clinics, public or private, will operate normally. The others, including taxi services and transport apps, will continue to operate with the guidance of sanitarians.

Restaurants, bars and cafes will have to close this coming week:

“As of next Tuesday, April 24th, we decree quarantine for the 645 municipalities of the state of São Paulo for 15 days, from March 24th to April 7th. This implies the determination, the obligation, to close all non-essential commerce and services to the population throughout the state of São Paulo for a period of 15 days,” said the governor at a press conference at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes.

“This measure can be renewed, extended or suppressed if necessary, but it is part of the information that we have based on the Health Department and the Covid-19 Control Center”, highlighted Doria.

Doria said that the state and municipal Public Security service continue to function normally. Banks and lottery outlets will also remain open. Industries must continue to operate, as they do not provide services to the general public.

"I also want to clarify that essential services in the areas of public health, food, supply, security and cleaning must continue to function", said the governor.

“The entire public security system and private security continue to operate normally. Obviously, in their municipalities, municipal guards, within the scope of the state: military police, civil police, fire brigade, prison system, scientific police, all regular functioning. And, as you already know, we have already suspended vacations and leave, so that this essential sector, in times of difficulty, continues to function regularly”, he said.

Bars and restaurants must close and will only be able to serve for delivery. “The actions of bars, restaurants, similar, as well as the prepared food part of bakeries will obviously undergo a transformation in this period of coronavirus. The use of delivery is a creative way for them to keep working and keep their professionals working.”

According to Bruno Covas, mayor of São Paulo, on Tuesday (24) a municipal decree will be published to give guidance to inspectors on how they should act in the inspection of establishments.

Doria also said that he will use the Police Force, if necessary, to avoid crowding. “We are going to adopt police measures to avoid funk dances”, he declared.
